Mission Statement
To inspire others to find wholeness and satisfaction in
their lives.
The Guiding
Principles behind SingleGoddess.com
1. Being single should be a positive experience. It
does not represent a personal flaw.
2. We must first love ourselves before we can be in
a loving, healthy relationship with another.
3. We must choose to be happy with or without a
relationship. Happiness is a choice.
4. Marriage is not a necessity of life, but a
choice for your life when the time is right for you.
5. Your personal time alone can be for personal
growth, self-discovery, and enjoyment. Find your true self.
6. Do not judge others for the choices they have made for their
life, as you do not want the same. |
Hello!
My name is Renee Jones, and I created SingleGoddess.com in 2001 as a haven on the web for those who are, or those who are seeking to be fulfilled, happy, self-assured single persons. From the letters I've received from so many of you who visit this site, it quickly became evident to me that many women (and men) were yearning for a message, a voice, that portrays singles as complete individuals, and not as though they should feel inadequate because are not married or in a relationship. Singles are ready to celebrate their independence without feeling pressure to be married. We are not against marriage; we are simply not married now for our own reasons. We are living full lives in the here and now.
My Journey
After a brief marriage, and a difficult divorce, I committed myself to raising my child and working to make a life for the two of us. However, I was rather young, lacking in experience, wisdom and sufficient self-esteem, and a bit overwhelmed by the road ahead of me. I was also financially strained, and feeling quite "stuck" and not knowing how to move forward with my life and my goals.
Being by nature, a driven, and goal-oriented person, this stale-mate of an existence was deeply frustrating. If it weren't for the love of my dear son, I would have been truly miserable. I had not even learned to love myself fully yet.
After many years of feeling unfulfilled in many ways, I (finally) began to realize I must seek my true self. Yes, I always knew this at a certain level, but it took a long time for it to come to the surface of my consciousness. Introspection gets set aside in the hustle-bustle of the life of a woman and mother, as it does for most of us.
One lesson I was learning myself, was also an important message that many single women were craving - that it is not only "ok" to be single, but it can be a your greatest time of self-discovery and accomplishment. That is, if you aren't completely pouring your energy into the pursuit of a relationship. Like many, I believed that the right relationship would resolve my issues, but in reality, it would have just been a distraction from working on myself.
Since those early days, I have learned to love and honor myself, and I have pursued my dreams. Through sharing my story and message with others who are doing the same or are striving to live more fulfilled lives, I have experienced even greater personal growth and profound joy.
Since the days when I started Single Goddess, I continued working on my personal development, as I have encouraged for others. I went back to school, and found a career that I love in healthcare, and have pursued a life-long dream to travel. Through my work in healthcare, I encountered many individuals who had gone through even greater hardship than I have ever imagined. I also found people with amazing strength who persevered mountains of adversity. I have observed even more about the state of the human condition, the power of determination, and of the ways some people create their own obstacles to their well-being. As much as it is rewarding to work in the healthcare profession, sometimes it is heart-breaking, and sometimes the limitations of what we can do is frustrating. Once again, I yearned for yet another way to help individuals in a very meaning way. This is when I discovered and began to study life coaching, which fits me like a glove - it brings together all the elements of caring, listening, compassion, motivating, problem-solving, and empowering that I have always sought to share with others.
